Client Overview

Canning Town

Demonstrator project for a leading provider of social housing. A hard to treat mid terraced property beset with damp and mould was selected to showcase the non-invasive nature of our modularised systems; how the Internal Wall Insulation interfaces in kitchen areas; and overall speed of install.

Challenges faced

This prominent London Council have a high volume of void properties with a requirement to be turned around quickly and made available to provide warm, safe and comfortable environments for those unfortunate to be on a social housing waiting list. The task, therefore, was to demonstrate the speed and efficiency of installing Internal Wall Insulation in a hard to treat, vacant property.

Solution provided

Overall, this pilot project delivered a comprehensive demonstration of our commitment towards providing a market leading, modular solution to enhance thermal efficiency and remove damp, mould and condensation.

By completing the works in just 5 days – from material supply to finished decorations – our specialist Installation Teams once again showcased the ease, speed and simplicity of the off-site manufactured panels in providing programme gains.

Whilst the Thermguard panels installed in the Living Room were not hooked up to the primary heat source; the intended outcome was to highlight how seamlessly they can be integrated with the Safeguard panels thanks to the System thickness design being exactly the same, 70mm. We purposefully left a ‘cut-out’ section to show the pipework as an example of how this innovation can be used as a solution to the heat loss perimeter by insulating the cols external walls, but also providing a modern and effective alternative to traditional heating methods.

Implementation process

The key to successful implementation in this project was at the site survey, design and manufacturing stage. By utilising an accurate point cloud survey, our off-site team were able to manufacture panels to the exact dimensions requirements of the property ensuring minimal waste generated at both the factory, and on-site during the installation.

In addition, our emphasis on quality and speed was realised through the development of a sequential installation programme which enabled the project to be completed in the most efficient timeframe possible.

If it had been the case where residents were living on the property, the disruption would have been minimal which is one of our key differences and factors in being given this project, which was to validate the countless benefits of Comfort Frame.
“It’s been a good project to manage as we’ve been able to incorporate local labour as well as using the Comfort Frame system. The way the system comes cut to size makes the process much simpler and mess free”

Client

“Amazing to see the system transforming a property that was entirely uninhabitable, into something that feels cosy and homely”

Results achieved

Our work completed brought about significant differences, showcasing the positives of the Comfort Frame Internal Wall Insulation systems and its capabilities as explained below.

Programme Efficiency

The bespoke modularized solution improves the speed at which Internal Wall Insulation can be manufactured and installed. This mitigates the need for drying of the walls, allowing for decorations to be carried out as soon as the panel is in place.

Damp and Mould Eradication

Whilst pre-treating the walls with an anti-fungal wash is required, our fully certified Systems eliminate the risk of damp and mould returning. Our innovative design principle which is ‘decoupled’ from the external walls, ensures that there is no penetration of the building envelope, therefore mitigating the risk of thermal bridging and the formation of cold spots.

Robust Installation

As a robust and severe Rated System, no secondary supports are needed which enables heavy items to be fixed directly to the Wall.

Reduced Cost of Maintenance

For future tenant considerations, we were keen to demonstrate the positive implications of the boards installed as they are not susceptible to damage unlike traditional plasterboard. This would drastically decrease the general management and cost of maintenance.
